About
Our Story

Pflag Surrey
is the local Pflag chapter in the South Fraser Valley serving Delta, Langley, Surrey and White Rock. We are supportive parents, families, friends, and allies of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. 2SLGBTQ+ is an acronym that stands for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning.

Our Mission
“Our mission is to foster a friendly, supportive, and respectful environment—one that is diverse and safe for our friends, families, and allies in the 2SLGBTQ+ community—through education, empowerment, and understanding.”
Our Vision
We celebrate diversity and envision a future for our community where all can live free from fear of discrimination, victimization, bullying, harassment and hatred. Pflag Surrey is committed to raising awareness and fostering understanding, advocating for the rights of all our children, family members and neighbours who are targeted for their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
We Educate
Through our website, we offer support to the LGBTQ2 community, information and links to local support networks. We also offer explanations of terminology, articles, news and books, and continue to update and distribute information pertinent to our community. There are also information and links to 2SLGBTQ+ history in B.C. and Canada.
What We Are All About:
We are the local chapter in the Fraser Valley serving, Delta, Langley, Surrey & White Rock. “We are supportive parents, families, friends, and allies of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Our goal is to provide a safe, judgment-free space where individuals can share information, exchange knowledge, and uplift one another through storytelling, education, and advocacy—working together to build a more accepting and inclusive society.”
With the members that volunteer and participants that visit and share their journey, we have a information, experience and understanding to respond to your answers and provide the support needed.

Surrey History
It all started with a conversation in 2016 between two Pflag Vancouver attendees. Lisa S. and Bruce M.D. who saw the growing need for a support group in Surrey. Bruce M.D., a Minister at Peninsula (Sunnyside) United Church, helped create free time and space for the group to meet regularly. Meetings started in the fall of 2016. In the summer of 2019 on June 27th, 2019, Pflag Surrey was announced as a new chapter of Pflag Canada. A core group of 5-6 volunteers help organize and run meetings.
“These meetings continue to be an extremely important part of our own story while supporting a family member through their journey. We have found compassion, understanding and support at these meetings. We also realize not everyone receives care from family and friend, so having a safe place to share feelings and ask questions is a vital part of our process.” Parent at a meeting

“Pflag Surrey would like acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, Qayqayt, Musqueam, and Tsawwassen First Nations. We honor the elders—past, present, and emerging—and recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism, committing ourselves to reconciliation and respect.”
